Job Description
To lead the execution of the strategy for the geology team; to ensure alignment with the organization’s long-term strategy and to ensure service and / or operation standards are met (internally and / or externally). To design and develop processes, practices and methodologies for the geology team. To ensure continued growth of the team and to maximize operational efficiencies, safety and profitability. To assist in general mine geology activities with an emphasis on drill planning and execution. As a senior member of the geology team, you will act as a mentor and role model to less experienced geologists. You will also have extensive experience in resource geology specific to gold which will enable you to provide expert technical advice and recommendations to engineers for planning purposes.
Job Responsibilities
To Oversee Activities Related To a System, Program Or Process In Geology Operations
Using advanced professional knowledge, acts as an advisor to a variety of internal and / or external requests such as developing and updating grade control models and mark-ups
Proposes new work approaches, methods and policies to optimize performance and to ensure adherence to industry regulations and organizational standards
Implements processes, policies, systems and practices within geology that contribute to effective geology operations
Keeps on top of trends related to geology and incorporates this information into work assignments and approach
Monitors costs related to geology and implements approved recommendations for maximizing operational efficiencies
Assigns tasks to less experiences employees and provides mentorship and guidance on complex or escalated issues
Actively seeks mentorship and learning to improve product or technical knowledge and skill set
Participates in task forces related to area of expertise
Creates and maintains drill hole / geological databases
Plans and maintains development drilling
To Analyze Information And Prepare Technical Documents To Support Decision Making
Investigates, researches and analyzes information and issues related to geology
Prepares business cases regarding projects and initiatives and presents recommendations and status updates to key stakeholders
Prepares and updates reserve technical reports and documentation to ensure compliance with industry and operational requirements
Complies and interprets geologic and assay data that will assist in solving grade distribution questions (ore-waste, boundaries, dilution) and facilitates efficient mining
Collaborates with senior management to identify and analyze business requirements and the implications for the team; identifies gaps and implements agreed upon solutions
Reviews assay data to determine its validity, review QAQC and lab practices.
Acts as a change agent and project sponsor for key initiatives; models organizational values, sets the cultural tone, and prioritizes business goals
To Communicate Information Related To Geology
Develops in-mine exploration and delineation drilling programs
Provides information on operating standard, compliance requirements and policies
Establishes and maintains a professional relationship with local academic staff, federal and state geologists, independent consultants
Provides support and expertise for Engineering and Metallurgical projects
Responsiblities
To lead and manage a team responsible for executing geology strategy
Identifies strategies and key performance goals and acts as an advisor to direct reports; works to overcome challenges and barriers and minimize risk
Identifies key performance measures for the team’ monitors and reports on the achievement of targets and revises strategies as needed
Sets performance targets and measures, monitors and manages the overall performance of the team and direct reports
Builds the capabilities of the team to enhance their ability to achieve financial and operating strategies; hires appropriately, leverages the talents of the team, and takes corrective action where necessary
Manages subcontractors, consultants and technicians
Education and Experience
BSc or BA degree in Geology is required and MS degree is preferred
Additional specialized training of up to 4 years
Formal professional or technical registration in appropriate area of expertise is preferred
Over 5 years of mining related experience
Strong understanding of mine geology, reconciliations and QAQC practices
Good working knowledge and skill with Gemcom Surpac or similar (as required), as well as various drillhole database programs
