The GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel invites applications for a

Post-doctoral Researcher in Marine Geodynamics / Fluid Flow Modeling

within the research unit MUHS of the research division FB4. The project will be carried out within the "Seafloor Modelling" group, which investigates the formation and evolution of the ocean floor using numerical modeling techniques.

Tasks:

Carry out an interdisciplinary research project that includes a strong modelling component;
Possible topics include lithosphere dynamics, hydrothermal systems, geosphere-climate interactions, and gas migration in marine sediments;
Start a new project and make it grow by raising third-party funding;
Publish in peer-reviewed journals and contribute to the group's international visibility.
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Qualifications:

PhD in geophysics, geology, or similar field;
 Strong background in numerical modeling;
Ability to interpret Earth System data and to integrate models with data;
Convincing publication record;
International visibility.
Knowledge of code-writing in Matlab, multi-phase flow simulations, and experience in 3D parallel computing is beneficial. The successful applicant will become part of a multidisciplinary and international team and is expected to establish active collaborations with the different theoretical as well as observational groups at GEOMAR and Kiel University.

This is a full-time position. The position can be split.

This position offers a fixed-term contract for 3 years. Legal basis for limitation is § 2 Abs. 1 German law on limited employment contracts in scientific projects (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz). The salary depends on qualification and can be up to the class E14 TVöD-Bund of the German tariff for public employees.
