Cerro Matoso S.A. (CMSA) is one of the world's largest ferronickel mining operations, accounting for nearly 10% of the worlds' ferronickel production. CMSA controls and operates all aspects of mining and processing in Montelíbano, Colombia.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Exploration Leader, the Exploration Geologist performs analysis and interpret geological, geophysical and geochemical information according to established parameters and technical standards of the company, to identify and characterize the potential zones that have the materials required by the ferronickel process plant. You will be responsible for identifying and implementing improvement initiatives that enable Mining excellence and support business priorities for continuous improvement. What the Role Entails (80% on the field / 20% Office)
Provide technical expertise to exploration execution to support well designed work;
Build business partnerships and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders across the business;
Develop, implement and facilitate improvement initiatives across Mining through sound financial and technical analysis;
Benchmark CMSA's performance to identify improvement opportunities;
Work collaboratively with planning department on pit and equipment allocation constraints;
Supervise the work of the contractor and accompany geologists in sampling, acquisition of field data and geological interpretation to ensure the quality of the information collected that will be used in geological modeling;
Audit the field staff to ensure the quality of the geological information that will be used in the company's projects;
Follow up drilling plans and keep a detailed control of the results;
Analyze and interpret geological, geophysical and geochemical data to identify and recommend opportunities to explore;
Design and control drilling campaigns and other exploratory activities identifying and recommending new targets for obtaining ore required by the ferronickel process plant;
Generate technical proposals of work and reports of the areas explored to facilitate the decision making that supports the projects.
About You
The ideal candidate will have the following:
Degree qualification in Geology or Geology Engineering;
Experience on Lateritic deposits;
Working with People (Relationships matter) - good interpersonal skills;
Passion and drive to exceed the requirements of stakeholders;
Spanish speaker and advance level of English as a foreign language;
It will be desirable to have proficiency in software such as SAP, Microsoft Projects, Microsoft Office, and specifically in ARCGIS and 3D modeling packages.
