Position Summary
The Geoscientist, under minimal supervision, performs multifaceted duties related to prospecting inventory which might include adding to core areas and developing new play ideas. Works closely with engineering staff utilizing knowledge of reservoir and petro physical parameters to enhance completions and overall well results. Provides advice and recommendations on acquisitions and joint venture opportunities.
Essential Functions
Gather, analyze, and interpret geological data to formulate development and exploration projects and typically handle several projects simultaneously
Provide geologic knowledge in structural, stratigraphic, and other geological interpretation to ongoing projects utilizing state of the art software and analysis techniques
Support of drilling operation efforts and reservoir engineering in producing properties, particularly project planning
Conduct regional analysis as appropriate to add new assets to project portfolio and to extend the boundaries of existing areas of operation
Identify geological relationships critical to the integration of multidisciplinary information into working interpretations, especially geophysical data and interpretation
Apply risk analysis parameters to all projects
Communicate effectively the results of work to management, especially with new ideas or those that challenge the status quo
Work independently as needed, and in team context as appropriate.
Demonstrate energy and enthusiasm for finding and producing oil and gas
Act as mentor to less senior employees, providing direction, development, and guidance
May supervise to less senior employees in the absence of management
Serve as technical expert in matters of Geoscience
PREREQUISITES
Bachelor's degree in Geology or Geosciences; Master's degree preferred
Requires a minimum of 15 years of related industry experience in Geosciences
Practice safe work habits at all times
Demonstrate commitment to Devon Attributes
Intermediate level (or better) computer skills
Knowledge in applied regional mapping, aeromagnetic data interpretation, applied hydrodynamics, current stratigraphic correlation and structural concepts
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Flexible, multi tasked oriented and able to work independently
Able to think strategically, using imagination and foresight to conceptualize potential problems and the skills to avoid those problems
Experience in horizontal drilling, completion, and simulation technology is preferred
